Pretty Pictures

I know clouds are a cliche, but here are some anyway. When you take them into Gimp and mess with stuff, they can look quite artsy. This could even be a wallpaper....

A lack of Insight

For this post, I have a non-nature photograph for you. I don't know what to say about it.....It's an old building in a small town--for rent as indicated by the sign on the boarded up window. This photo occurred in a slightly different fashion than is my usual (snap tons of pictures and choose good ones later); I actually saw the old building with my eyes, and then took out my camera. When I saw it, I just knew that it would make a good picture, and it did.

It seems that I don't have many profound things to say about my pictures. However, being that I just started this blog, I'm kind of playing catch-up right now. I have tons of photos from years past that I want to post, so I'm going to try to get through the best ones quickly and start incorporating brand new photos as I take them.

I just looked at the EXIF data, and it says that this photo was taken Feb. 6 2007. I didn't think it was that old. In fact, I got the camera that I took that one with in 2008, so that's not even possible....

A Double Header

Ok, so here's my first uploaded 'set' of photos. It's some random flowers (I'll figure out the name for them sometime), they grow out of a type of grayish looking ground cover stuff. The flowers are less than half an inch in diameter, so I used my super-macro mode on them.

As with most amateur photographers, I think I like macro and super-macro waaaay to much. So be prepared for lots of macro pictures. And lots of flower pictures.

One unintentional compositional element that I like about this set is the change in value of the flowers compared to their backgrounds, the first being light on a dark background, and the second vice-versa.

I'll admit that most of my photos are nature photos, but what can I say--nature makes good pictures. Anyway, I'll try to get some that aren't plants and flowers and nature in here soon also.

A Classic

Here's a classic, a field of grass waving in the wind.

Yeah, I don't actually have much to say about this. It's a field. There's some grass, some wind. Some trees in the background. The sky is there too. Yep........

Hello World!

So, I've decided to make a blog. A blog about what? Well, the title may have tipped you off that it's photography. So, this blog will contain some of my photography, and serve as a kind of digital gallery.... And we'll see where it goes from there. I study art (among other things), and do mostly painting and sculpture, but not much photography. So, I figured I'd try my hand at photography. Now it's time to find out if I can have any success with it...

Getting right to it, here's my first photo-post.

Oh look, it's a dandelion. Yep. It's also the background for this blog as of today, because I think it looks good as a background, and I like it.

Now, about these photos that I post... I retain the copyrights to any images posted by me on this blog, but you are free to use, modify, and distribute them, provided that any derivative works retain these same restrictions. Basically Copyleft. So, if you for some strange reason happen to like one of my pictures enough to want it, you can have it.

So that's it for now....I'll try to keep this updated with new photos regularly, and include more back story than "it's a dandelion". I hope you enjoy the photos and my attempt at photography.
